  • Identify the common views used for pre-procedural ultrasound of the neuraxial.
  • Relate the risks and benefits of various short and intermediate acting local anesthetics for spinal anesthesia.
  • Discuss the functional regional anesthesia anatomy related to the distal upper extremity.
  • Describe how to execute distal peripheral nerve block for motor sparing anesthesia or failed brachial plexus block rescue.
  • Review how to facilitate effective risk discussion with patients.

  • Identify strategies can increase efficiency and decrease costs.
  • State the normal and pathologic findings in routine US of the lung.
  • Assess patients for pneumothorax, diaphragmatic paresis, pleural effusion, congestion and consolidation.
  • Develop strategies that may decrease block related peripheral nerve injuries.
  • Assess peripheral nerve injuries after a peripheral nerve block and determine appropriate consultation and treatment.
