Pediatric Regional
Anesthesia Workshops

Hands-on ultrasound training focused on regional anesthesia for neonates, infants, and children.

Learn how pediatric anatomy, dosing, equipment, and procedural technique differ from adult practice through focused teaching, expert demonstrations, case discussion, and supervised live-model scanning.

The Workshop Focus

Adapt the Technique to the Child

Pediatric regional anesthesia requires more than performing an adult block on a smaller patient. NYSORA workshops focus on the factors that change with age, size, anatomy, and surgical indication.

Assess the Patient

Consider age, weight, comorbidities, surgery, and expected postoperative pain.

Select the Block

Match the regional anesthesia technique to the procedure and required analgesic coverage.

Plan the Dose

Choose the appropriate local anesthetic concentration, volume, and total dose.

Identify the Anatomy

Recognize pediatric ultrasound anatomy and the structures relevant to a safe procedural path.

What You Will Take
Back to Practice

A More Structured Approach to Pediatric Regional Anesthesia

After the workshop, participants should be better prepared to:

  • Recognize the ultrasound anatomy relevant to pediatric nerve blocks
  • Identify key differences between pediatric and adult sonoanatomy
  • Select appropriate local anesthetic dose, concentration, and volume
  • Adapt techniques to the age and size of the child
  • Choose regional anesthesia equipment for different pediatric age groups
  • Perform structured upper- and lower-limb scanning

What is a CME activity? A Continuing Medical Education (CME) activity serves to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships that a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public, or the profession.

Why do physicians need continuing medical education (CME) credit? Physicians use CME credit to demonstrate that they have participated in educational activities and to document meeting the requirements of state medical boards, medical specialty societies, specialty boards, hospital medical staffs, the Joint Commission, insurance groups, and others.

Who accredits the workshop? The accreditation and type of CME credit offered depend on where the workshop is hosted:

  • Europe: Workshops are accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®), awarding European CME credits (ECMEC®s). EACCME accreditation means that the educational activity is of high scientific value, is free of commercial bias, and promotes active adult learning. These credits are recognised in many European countries and may also be recognised or converted in the USA and Canada under the applicable agreements and requirements.
  • North America: Workshops are provided through a CME provider accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), offering AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.

How are CME credits tracked for physicians? Physicians should maintain a record of their CME credits from all sources, including certificates received after attending accredited activities.

For activities offering AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™, there is no centralised tracking of credits. Each accredited CME provider is required to keep records of credits claimed by participating physicians for six years from the date of completion of the activity.

What documentation does a physician receive for participating in a certified CME activity? A CME certificate will be issued following completion of the applicable attendance, evaluation, and credit-claiming requirements. It can be used to document participation and the credits awarded. The certificate and type of credit will depend on the accreditation applicable to the event.

Can nurse practitioners receive credit? The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) accepts eligible continuing education from ACCME-accredited organisations toward certification renewal, subject to its requirements. Nurse practitioners should refer to the individual event’s accreditation information and confirm that the credits meet their certification or licensing requirements.

  • Interpret various sonographic artifacts and outline a plan for troubleshooting these using various transducer maneuvers and ultrasound machine setting adjustments;
  • Demonstrate the correct sonographic technique for identification of the brachial plexus and individual nerves of the lower extremity, and associated vascular and musculoskeletal structures;
  • Demonstrate the correct sonographic technique for performance of truncal blocks including transversus abdominis plane block, rectus sheath block, and paravertebral and neuraxial block;
  • Develop a framework for the establishment of a regional anesthesia service using strategies to increase surgical, anesthetic and hospital buy-in;
  • Discuss the rational choice of local anesthetics and adjuvants for various peripheral nerve blocks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our workshop programs.

NYSORA Workshops are small-group, hands-on training programs focused on ultrasound-guided techniques in regional anesthesia, pain procedures, and POCUS. Workshops are structured training courses that combine brief teaching with extensive hands-on practice using ultrasound machines, live models, and simulators.

NYSORA workshops are designed to be highly practical. While short lectures and demonstrations provide a clinical framework, most of the program is dedicated to hands-on scanning, supervised practice, and real-time feedback from faculty.

Depending on the course, workshops may cover:
  • Ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia and nerve blocks
  • Ultrasound-guided pain interventions (acute and chronic pain)
  • POCUS scanning and clinical interpretation
  • Needle visualization, sonoanatomy, and standardized step-by-step approaches
Each workshop page lists the exact procedures and learning objectives.

Workshops are led by experienced clinicians and educators with deep expertise in regional anesthesia, pain medicine, and ultrasound-guided techniques. Faculty composition varies by course and is listed on each workshop page.

No formal prerequisites are required for most workshops. Courses are designed to support a range of skill levels—from trainees building fundamentals to experienced clinicians refining ultrasound-guided techniques.
